cradling my body
In mundanity and importance, spaces we inhabit become markers of time. Standing as landmarks for life events and habitual patterns, these spaces can evoke powerful emotions when recalled. I consider how my past shelters have shaped who I am. I am drawn to how the memories of these spaces are immersed in personal memorabilia — patterns, colors, and textures — and how these references have become part of my identity. Through the conceit of photography, I construct temporary sets of remembered spaces. Layered into each image are drawings and patterns from current life, melding together a past and present self, cluttered and cramped with new experiences.
In recent times the home has been re-emphasized in its symbolism of safety and sanctuary. With this project, I want to encourage viewers to reflect on their personal spaces and the impact they have on their being.
